Reducing Our Footprint

Like many others, at Caledonia’s Best we try to do our part every day to have a positive impact on the world around us. We think carefully about the products we offer and how the way we conduct our business affects others. We do get inquires from time to time on our sustainability policies, so we are happy to share some of the decisions we have made to reduce our footprint on the world.

Materials We Purchase

Many of the items we sell are fragile, so we use a combination of packing materials to do our best to ensure our products safely reach their final destination. We use corrugated cardboard shipping boxes with a minimum of 30% recycled material (that are 100% recyclable themselves) and 100% recycled brown kraft paper to fill any void space to keep all items secure. The bubble wrap we use is made from 40% recycled material and our packing peanuts are biodegradable, made from starch that will dissolve in water. When we attend Scottish festivals, the retail bags we provide are made from 100% recycled (95% post-consumer content) brown paper. The wrapping paper we offer is from the Green Way® brand, printed on either recycled paper or paper sourced from well managed forests and made in the USA.

How We Ship

As an online retailer, shipping products individually to each customer is at the very core of the service we offer. We have chosen to use the U.S. Postal Service as our carrier of choice, and one of the main reasons why is that the U.S. Postal Service delivers to every house, every day, all year long. There is no need for a special truck to make an additional trip using additional resources if a package needs to be delivered. With Priority Service, the U.S. Postal Service is also often the fastest option (1–3 days for most continental U.S. addresses). If a product or location does fall out of the delivery parameters of the U.S. Postal Service, we will use another carrier as necessary, but that is the exception, not the norm.

If you have suggestions for how we can further reduce our environmental footprint, please let us know.
